Vision screenings were among the services offered during the Power of Giving health fair on November 3.

Baldwin EMC held its sixth annual Power of Giving blood drive and health fair on Thursday, November 3, and co-op officials are calling the event a great success. A total of 92 pints of blood, along with more than 400 pounds of non-perishable food and close to a ton of pet food were collected throughout the day.

The cooperative worked with LifeSouth Community Blood Center to collect blood donations during the event. Both Baldwin EMC employees and members of the public rolled up their sleeves to make contributions. Food donations were also plentiful during the drive. A total of 410 pounds of food donated by employees and the community were packaged up and delivered to Catholic Social Services of Baldwin County for distribution to needy families.

For the second year in a row, Baldwin EMC also partnered with the Baldwin County Humane Society to host a Pet Food Pantry during the Power of Giving drive. Sonja Pressley, executive director for the Humane Society, reported that nearly 2,000 pounds of pet food and cat litter were taken in during the event.

The Power of Giving drive also included a health fair, where representatives from close to 20 medical organizations offered a variety of services, including vision screenings, massage therapy and blood sugar tests.
