Baldwin EMC Pink Power Campaign Nets Big Donation
Baldwin
EMC representatives are proud to report the cooperative’s first ever “Pink
Power” campaign has raised more than $5,400 for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure
foundation. The month-long program was not only designed to raise funds for
breast cancer research and community outreach, but also awareness about the
prevalence of the disease. Karen
Moore, vice president of member services and public relations for Baldwin EMC,
says proceeds were raised through donations from Baldwin EMC members, who in return
received customized Pink Power T-shirts, hats, visors or bracelets.
Baldwin EMC also held a silent auction during an all-employee training day. The
items sold ranged from paintings to baked goods, and were mostly furnished by
Baldwin EMC employees. Throughout
the entire month of October, Baldwin EMC’s operations crews wore pink hard hats
to draw attention to the campaign and raise awareness about breast cancer in
our community. There were also four casual Fridays arranged during the month,
which allowed non-uniformed employees to wear their Pink Power t-shirts to
work. “When people saw the pink hard hats or the Pink Power t-shirts, it
brought their attention to this campaign and encouraged them to support it,”
Moore says. “Not only did we take donations, we also provided breast cancer
awareness materials in each of our office lobbies, and we hosted an
informational program for our employees, as well.” Moore
says that the cooperative’s employees are very proud of the success of this
campaign. “We are thrilled at the great response we received. The money we
raised will make a difference, and the awareness we hopefully spread might save
lives.” The cooperative plans to make the Pink Power campaign an annual
program.
